Marriage, Relationships & Children

Asisat Oshoala has a daughter. She isn’t married, and no one knows who the father is. Her daughter’s name hasn’t been shared either. Some people guess she might have grown up in Lagos.

Her age isn’t confirmed, but looking at old pictures and social media posts, she seemed to be around ten years old in 2019. Oshoala first talked about her daughter in 2019 during a fan Q&A on social media. Many people were surprised because her daughter already looked about ten at the time.

She does not talk much about her love life, so there is no confirmed boyfriend either. A long time ago, some people online tried to link her to Abu Abolaji Azeez, a Nigerian beach football player, but they never said they were together, so it remained just gossip.

Early Career in Nigeria

Asisat began her career playing street football with other boys around her neighborhood in Mushin, Lagos. This was mostly done barefoot. She also played with her friends in school, even though her parents didn’t like it at first. She played on Sundays too.

Things changed when she found out there was a girls’ football team at a school nearby. She started going there to train and play, moving from just playing on the streets to joining a real team.

In 2009, when she was about 14 or 15, she joined FC Robo, also called Robo Queens, a club in Lagos that helps young players develop their talent. Then in April 2013, she moved to Rivers Angels FC in Port Harcourt, one of Nigeria’s best women’s teams, which made her famous in the country and opened doors to international football.

Transfer to Liverpool Ladies

Asisat Oshoala joined Liverpool Ladies on January 23, 2015, from Rivers Angels in Nigeria’s Women’s Championship. At the time, Liverpool were the reigning champions of England’s top women’s league, the FA WSL 1. She became one of the first African players in the WSL. Oshoala had gained international recognition after winning both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at the 2014 FIFA U‑20 Women’s World Cup, where Nigeria finished runners-up. Joining Liverpool offered Champions League football. Manager Matt Beard saw her as a key addition to a strong squad defending its WSL title.

During the 2015 season, she scored three goals in nine league appearances, including the opener in a 2–1 win against Birmingham City and the third in a 3–1 victory over Arsenal, despite missing part of the season due to injury. Her performance earned her the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award in 2015.

After one season with Liverpool, Oshoala moved to Arsenal Ladies in March 2016.

Oshoala called the move a dream come true, having supported Arsenal as a child.

Oshoala joined Arsenal during the 2016 FA WSL season, the last summer-format season before the league switched to winter. She made thirteen appearances and scored two goals, including on her debut in a 3–1 win against Reading Women. Oshoala also scored the opening goal in a 2–0 victory over Notts County.
