Rodri, Kylian Mbappé and Unai Simón headlined the 2026 FIFA World Cup awards after Spain beat Argentina 1-0 after extra time to win the final. Ferran Torres scored the only goal in the 106th minute as Spain claimed their second FIFA World Cup title.
The tournament also produced winners across the major individual awards, including the Golden Ball, Golden Boot, Golden Glove and Best Young Player. Goal Nigeria reports that the honours were presented after the conclusion of the final at MetLife Stadium.
Rodri Wins Golden Ball After Spain’s World Cup Triumph
Rodri won the Golden Ball as the best player of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after leading Spain throughout the tournament.
The Manchester City midfielder controlled Spain’s midfield in the final as his side finished with 65% possession and 852 completed passes. He also lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy after the victory over Argentina.
Meanwhile, Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón received the Golden Glove after keeping seven clean sheets in eight matches. Spain conceded only one goal during the tournament.
Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi won the Best Young Player award. The 19-year-old completed 121 passes in the final, while Barcelona team-mate Lamine Yamal became one of the youngest players to win a FIFA World Cup.
Mbappé Claims Golden Boot As Spain Lift World Cup
France captain Kylian Mbappé finished as the tournament’s leading scorer and collected the Golden Boot.
Although France did not reach the final, Mbappé scored more goals than every other player during the competition to secure the award.
Argentina, meanwhile, finished runners-up after defending their title throughout the tournament. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez made 11 saves in the final before Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time.
