Harry Kane joined Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Ruud van Nistelrooy after scoring in Bayern Munich’s 5-0 victory over Bodø/Glimt on Thursday. According to Opta, Kane became the fourth player to score in at least eight consecutive Champions League matches, while Ronaldo and Lewandowski have each done so twice.
Kane reached the mark in the 61st minute when he headed Michael Olise’s free-kick into the net. The goal took his Champions League total to 55 in 71 appearances, according to statistics cited by talkSPORT.
The England captain had scored in Bayern’s previous seven Champions League matches, including games against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. His latest strike continued that run in Bayern’s first European fixture of the new campaign.
Bayern took control after half-time when Jamal Musiala opened the scoring in the 47th minute. Kane then doubled the lead before Alphonso Davies scored from outside the penalty area in the 77th minute.
Olise finished the match with two goals after scoring in the 83rd minute and again in stoppage time. The winger also created Kane’s goal.
Before the campaign began, Kane told TNT Sports: “We’re coming into this season now saying that it needs to be our year. We need to find a way to get it done.” Kane made the comment after Bayern lost last season’s semi-final to Paris Saint-Germain.
Bayern also secured their 23rd consecutive victory in a Champions League opening match. Bodø/Glimt ended the game with 10 men after Odin Bjørtuft received a late red card.
