Former England captain and two-time Ballon d’Or winner Kevin Keegan has died aged 75 after battling stage four cancer, his family have confirmed.
Kevin Keegan died on Monday after living with stage four cancer. His family said the former England captain was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments.
According to the BBC, Keegan first disclosed his illness in June 2026 after his family revealed earlier in the year that doctors had been investigating ongoing abdominal symptoms. They also thanked the medical team who cared for him and asked for privacy.

Keegan built one of the greatest careers in English football.
He won three First Division titles, the European Cup, the FA Cup and two UEFA Cups with Liverpool before helping Hamburg win the Bundesliga. He also became one of only four English players to win the Ballon d’Or, claiming the award in 1978 and 1979.
For England, Keegan scored 21 goals in 63 appearances before managing the national team between 1999 and 2000.
He also enjoyed successful spells as manager of Newcastle United, Fulham and Manchester City. At Newcastle, he earned lasting admiration for leading the club back to the Premier League and assembling the famous “Entertainers” side that challenged for the league title in the 1995-96 season.
