The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set up a six-member fact-finding committee to examine Nigeria’s recent results, following the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The decision came after Nigeria’s 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in Morocco. The Super Falcons, who entered the tournament as defending champions, lost to Cameroon in the quarter-finals.
Nigeria then faced South Africa in a playoff for a place in the Inter-Confederation Playoffs. South Africa won 2-1, leaving the Super Falcons out of the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
As a result, Nigeria will miss the Women’s World Cup for the first time since the tournament began in 1991.
Fanny Amun Heads NFF Committee
The NFF appointed former General Secretary Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON, as chairman of the committee.
Former Nigeria U-20 coach Ladan Bosso, former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie, former Super Eagles captain Mutiu Adepoju and former FIFA referee Dr Alex Mana will serve as members.
Mallam Mohammed Nasiru Sa’idu, chairman of the Sokoto State Football Association, will serve as secretary.
The federation said the committee will examine the setbacks suffered by Nigeria’s national teams and recommend measures for the future.
The NFF said the committee will “investigate the setbacks and make recommendations”.
It also said the panel will “identify the factors responsible for the recent poor performances”.
Oparanozie Demands Changes
Meanwhile, committee member Desire Oparanozie has called for changes after the Falcons’ World Cup failure.
The former captain wrote: “No more survival on raw talent and past glory alone. As painful as this moment is, more pained on the lack of institutional structure. We need a fresh start; a start that evaluates everything. #UnavoidableTruth.”
Oparanozie made the statement after Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to South Africa.
The result ended the Falcons’ hopes of reaching the 2027 World Cup and followed their quarter-final defeat to Cameroon at WAFCON.
The NFF will now examine the circumstances behind the recent setbacks involving the national teams and submit its recommendations.
