Lesley Ugochukwu remains eligible to play for Nigeria as Galatasaray close in on the Burnley midfielder.

Lesley Ugochukwu’s proposed move to Galatasaray has turned attention to Nigeria’s midfield options, with the Burnley player still eligible to represent the Super Eagles — GoalNigeria.com reports.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Galatasaray have reached an agreement with Burnley for the 22-year-old in a deal worth around €30 million (approximately ₦47 billion). The Turkish champions are expected to complete the remaining formalities before announcing the transfer.

Ugochukwu has represented France at youth level but has not played a competitive senior international, leaving him eligible to play for Nigeria.

Eric Chelle Continues To Monitor Midfield Options

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle continues to assess players who can strengthen his midfield ahead of future international fixtures.

Ugochukwu remains one of the eligible players on Nigeria’s radar as he prepares for the next step in his club career.

The midfielder impressed during the 2025-26 Premier League season despite Burnley’s relegation to the Championship. He scored three goals and registered two assists in 35 league appearances.

Where Ugochukwu Could Fit In The Super Eagles Midfield

Chelle has several experienced midfielders available, including Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Alhassan Yusuf and Raphael Onyedika. Nigeria have also monitored other dual-national players as they continue to expand the pool ahead of future international fixtures. Ugochukwu’s eligibility means the Super Eagles can still consider him if he decides to represent Nigeria at senior level.

If Ugochukwu receives a future call-up, he would add another option for Chelle to consider in midfield.

A move to Galatasaray would also see the 22-year-old play Champions League football and become a teammate of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.

Ugochukwu has yet to announce any decision on his senior international future, while Nigeria remain able to call him up under FIFA eligibility rules.
