Mikel Arteta has suggested Arsenal are closing in on more transfer deals after insisting “a lot is happening” behind the scenes.

The Gunners have made only two signings so far this summer, with Christos Tzolis arriving from Club Brugge and former Leeds United goalkeeper Ilan Meslier joining on a free transfer. However, Arteta expects more business before the transfer window closes.

Speaking during Arsenal’s pre-season training camp in Spain, the Premier League-winning manager said the club remains fully focused on strengthening the squad ahead of the new season.

“A lot is happening. We all know about the context of this transfer window,” Arteta said.

The Spaniard stressed that Arsenal’s owners, board and sporting director all share the same ambition to improve the squad after ending the club’s 22-year wait for the Premier League title.

“We want to take this club to a different level. That is going to require a better squad, better individuals.”

Arteta added that Arsenal have already identified the areas they want to improve and hopes new arrivals will be completed soon.

“We have identified where we have opportunities to grow and to improve and to evolve our game. Hopefully very soon we can start to put things in a very concrete way.”

Arsenal have been linked with several high-profile targets during the summer. The club missed out on Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers after Chelsea completed a deal, while Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes remains on the shortlist. Reports have also linked the Gunners with Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior and Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.

The Premier League champions continue their preparations for the 2026-27 season with a pre-season friendly against Girona in Spain this weekend as Arteta looks to finalise his squad before the new campaign begins.
